About T.A.P.
TAP was founded in 2011 dedicated to the principles of love and respect for the craft and programs that are student-centered, creating a community of artists and families who collaborate and support each other. We have done community outreach and free programs through Yonkers Public Library and Williamsbridge Oval Rec Center in the Bronx. We have brought our programs into various school districts, such as the ELT Program we developed at School 9 in Yonkers. We funnel our resources into paying for professional instruction and supplies, but keep participation fees as low as possible, never turning away anyone who needs us.
Studies show that creative projects and hands-on learning can hone skills in literacy, math, history, science, public speaking, memorization, and research better than traditional programs. Students feel safe and confident expressing emotions while learning about discipline, commitment, teamwork, and taking pride in and ownership of their work. By becoming members of an ensemble, they gain a sense of belonging and are less fearful to stretch themselves creatively and emotionally.
