Examples of Classes Coming Soon

Below are some of our specialty classes. Let us know what interests you and your child(ren) Most of these classes can be offered in four weeks, six weeks or more. Musical Theatre and Little Performer Workshops are generally 10-12 weeks and culminate in a final performance. All classes share work – even if just amongst ourselves.

MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP

Students who are serious about honing skills in voice, movement, acting, writing and visual arts should take advantage of this full service arts education. We will work on MANY different pieces and projects which will include acting (monologues & scenes, both scripted and original), singing, choreography and visual arts. We will focus on understanding how to create a character and portray truthful human behavior in the given circumstances. This ensemble bonds like family and has a great time learning to be in a professional production. Following our final studio class, there is a dress rehearsal and a final sharing on stage where all will be welcome to join us free of charge. Performance-based classes require commitment to attendance and learning our parts. Last few studio classes plus dress rehearsal and performance will be mandatory.

We invite our younger friends and siblings to join in the fun! This light-hearted yet serious ensemble will learn the basics of creative expression and presentation. With a strong focus on movement and feeling comfortable in our skin, we will also learn musicality and other skills necessary to present in front of an invited audience. Teamwork and focus is emphasized, while lifelong friendships are formed. Following our final studio class, there is a dress rehearsal and a final sharing on stage where all will be welcome to join us free of charge. CHARACTER CREATION/WRITING

Students with an hour to spend can join this incredible new workshop – aimed at helping students write an original monologue or scene for a character they create! We will spend time doing improv and fun ensemble games and talk about topics and issues that are important to us. We will be given the tools to examine who we are and then how a character we create might be the same or different and in what ways. Should culminate in an original piece. Please check with us regarding which group your child will be more comfortable working in. Younger students must be ready to focus and write to join this class.

Students who feel ready to do so may be invited to present their piece at a sharing for an invited audience.

EXPLORING VISUAL ARTS

By allowing ourselves to express our feelings and ideas through colors, shapes and designs, we can reflect both the challenges and beauty of life. We are happy to offer this exploration into the healing power of creativity, community and story-telling. Students will be encouraged to create pieces using various mediums which express one or more emotions from their own experiences. Our emotions can create art, and art can evoke emotions. We will also be asked to comment on the work of others and how it makes us feel. We strive to unlock a student’s artistic potential, freeing their voices for justice, freedom and change. We provide the materials, you provide the emotions and ideas!

A fun, light-hearted, low-pressure class teaching the skills of improv acting and story-telling. Students join an ensemble where we learn to listen and respond intelligently. ACTING AND VOICE WORKSHOP:

This class is designed to help a group of students form an ensemble and hone skills in theatre, voice and movement. We will start with team-building exercises and vocal and physical warm-ups, leading into some improvisation, with the potential to continue the exploration into monologues, scenes, songs and choreography. Beginners will get an introduction into building confidence and feeling comfortable with public speaking, even more seasoned artists can benefit from this low-pressure opportunity to strengthen understanding of how to create a character and portray truthful human behavior in the given circumstances.

We touch on various skills and types of work, with the group continuing with what resonates. Future classes can take this further towards performance and/or creating original pieces. While this is not a performance based workshop, we will invite family and friends to be part of the last class to share in our work.

AFRICAN DRUMMING AND DANCE:

Master drum-maker, drummer and dancer, Vado Diamonde from the Ivory Coast, leads this exploration of rhythm and body. Classes may include both drumming and dance, or focus on each skill individually. This vigorous workshop begins with familiar stretching and movement combined with African gestures and moves. Steps are learned in sequence, and combined with drum rhythms and calls. Traditional drum sequences and joyful movement are introduced and integrated into an exciting experience of movement across the floor. Both group and solo work are encouraged, and besides learned steps, inspired improv is explored. Class ends in a circle of respect and thanks.
