MONDAYS

VOICE – SINGING & PUBLIC SPEAKING

Learn basic vocal techniques to present yourself with confidence when singing or speaking in front of others. We do deep breathing for strength and projection, exercises for resonance to give a vibrant, interesting tone and diction to improve pronunciation and enunciation. Tension-free tone quality and dynamics are used to add color to our presentations. We also work on understanding lyrics and text so that we always express ourselves completely. We need to know not only WHAT we are saying, but WHY. Growth and devlopment of the voice gives us confidence and character in all we do. Everyone’s voice is important and we all deserve to be heard.

Dates: 5/13, 5/20, 6/3, 6/10, 6/17 (5wks)

Steps are learned in sequence, and combined with drum rhythms and calls. Traditional drum sequences and joyful movement are introduced and integrated into an exciting experience of movement across the floor. Both group and solo work are encouraged, and inspired improv is explored. Class ends in a circle of respect and thanks.

Latin dance is so much fun, it hardly feels like exercise, yet it has all the benefits of a cardio-workout. Both fine and gross motor skills are improved while promoting mindfulness and improving mood. This class focuses on footwork, body movement and weight transfer, so no partner is necessary. A great way to make friends!

COOKING

Learn the science, literacy and math of cooking, along with the love of becoming one with your food before it goes into your body. Starting with safety rules and skills with utensils, we divide the tasks of set-up, preparation and clean-up, while creating simple dishes. Kids learn patience, problem-solving creativity, counting, sequencing and fractions. We begin to understand how to pair flavors, and to plan simple menus. We touch different textures of food, and learn the history and culture of each dish. Are french fries French? Why are certain seasonings more prevalent in certain countries? A great lesson in teamwork and sharing – with a tasting for all at the end of class.

MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP

Students who are serious about honing skills in voice, movement, acting, and all aspects of creating a musical theatre ensemble should take advantage of this opportunity to go through the entire process. We start with team building exercises to become a tight-knit group and feel safe expressing ourselves. From auditioning for our roles, to analyzing the characters and the script, to learning lines, singing songs, learning blocking and choreography, to costumes, sets, lights, sound and a final performance in front of a live audience, all the skills to be a part of a professional production are practiced and put to use. We take the given circumstances of the script to portray truthful human behavior onstage. These specially curated and edited experiences give each performer a moment to shine appropriate to their own comfort, age and experience level. Each child is allowed to feel special, successful, and confident, and have fun. Performance-based classes require commitment to attendance and learning our parts. Students who join Musical Theatre Workshop must be willing to work at home in addition to fully participating in all classes, attending dress rehearsals and a final sharing on stage where all are welcome to join us free of charge.

Auditions are for the purpose of casting roles – all registered students will be given a part appropriate to their experience and comfort.

Please carefully read about the expectations and the schedule before deciding to commit to this process and taking a role in the show. ALL DATES IN JUNE ARE ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY NO EXCEPTIONS!
