This vigorous workshop begins with familiar stretching and movement combined with African gestures and moves. Steps are learned in sequence, and combined with drum rhythms and calls. Traditional drum sequences and joyful movement are introduced and integrated into an exciting experience of movement across the floor. Both group and solo work are encouraged, and besides learned steps, inspired improv is explored. Class ends in a circle of respect and thanks.

Tension-free tone quality and dynamics are used to add color to our presentations. We also work on understanding lyrics and text so that we always express ourselves completely. We need to know not only WHAT we are saying, but WHY. Growth and devlopment of the voice, leads to more confidence and character in all we do. Everyone should know that their voice is important and that they deserve to be heard.

This class focuses on the tools we use to examine who we are and then how a character we create might be similar or different and in what ways. We start with discussions about topics and issues that are important to us and the type of stories we want to tell. We gain understanding of how to create a strong, believable character who can portray truthful human behavior in the given circumstances. We will go over choices that first determine who a character is, and then the further details that begin to tell a story in the form of either a monologue or scene. Some students will create an original piece, while others may only begin the process which can lead to doing so in future workshops. The ultimate goal will be to have a piece ready to share with an audience.

Kids learn patience, problem-solving and creativity, counting, sequencing and fractions. We begin to understand how flavors pair with each other, and how simple menus are planned. We use physical touching to feel different textures of food, along with learning the history and culture of each dish. Are french fries French? Spring show is “The Candy Man” –  the life of Willy Wonka

Students who are serious about honing skills in voice, movement, acting, and all aspects of creating a musical theatre ensemble should take advantage of this opportunity to go through the entire process. We start with team building exercises to become a tight-knit group and feel safe expressing ourselves. From auditioning for our roles, to analyzing the characters and the script, to learning lines, singing songs, learning blocking and choreography, to costumes, sets, lights, sound and a final performance in front of a live audience, all the skills to be a part of a professional production are practiced and put to use. We take the given circumstances of the script to portray truthful human behavior onstage. These specially curated and edited experiences give each performer a moment to shine appropriate to their own comfort, age and experience level. Each child is allowed to feel special, successful, and confident, and have fun. Performance-based classes require commitment to attendance and learning our parts. Students who join Musical Theatre Workshop must be willing to work at home in addition to fully participating in all classes, attending dress rehearsals and a final sharing on stage where all are welcome to join us free of charge.

Auditions are for the purpose of casting roles – all registered students will be given a part appropriate to their experience and comfort.
